As summer nears its end in Oklahoma, it’s the perfect time to reflect on all the events that have contributed to the District’s lively atmosphere – making it the place to be this summer. From bustling markets to electrifying concerts, Wheeler District has hosted a diverse array of events contributing to that close knit community feel of the District. Let’s reminisce on some of the standout activities that have made this summer one to remember:
Farmers Markets
In the bustling urban core of the District, you can find everything from fresh produce to mouth-watering desserts every Friday night at the Wheeler District Farmers Market. Kicking off in May, the market is held from 6-9pm on Spoke Street until the last Friday of October. This market is not just a shopping destination, but serves as a gathering place for neighbors and visitors alike to mingle, listen to live music, and explore on foot. With vendors, businesses, and food trucks from all across Oklahoma, the Wheeler Farmers Market has something for everyone! At this family-friendly event, you can grab a bite to eat at Taco Nation or enjoy beers from The Big Friendly all while your kiddos play on the playground centrally located within the event.
Summer Concert Series
On the third Friday of each month, the Ferris Wheel Plaza is filled with live music and local vendors, curating the perfect summer atmosphere to enjoy a free concert! Each Wheeler Summer Concert Series night you can find a lineup of talented musicians and bands playing under the glow of the Ferris wheel lights. From indie rock to blues and jazz, the concerts offer an opportunity to unwind with friends and family while enjoying the music and shopping local vendors. Of course, you can also ride the Ferris wheel to capture some of the best views in the city! There’s only one more chance to attend the Summer Concert Series this season so be sure to join us on September 20th as we celebrate local artists!
Even outside of concert nights, the Ferris Wheel Plaza is full of summer fun! Enjoy $6 rides on the Ferris wheel, along with a selection of yard games and relaxing hammocks. Looking for a picturesque picnic spot? Pack a picnic basket and head over to enjoy stunning views of the OKC skyline and the Ferris wheel.
Wheeler Criterium
The Wheeler Criterium, a weekly cycling race held on Tuesday nights, brings competitive cyclists and spectators together for thrilling races through the streets of Wheeler District. From novice riders to seasoned pros, participants take on the exciting challenge of high-speed racing in a fun and welcoming atmosphere. Whether you’re competing or just cheering from the sidelines, the Criterium adds a burst of energy to the summer scene and continues to be a favorite community event.
Fitness At The Wheel

Life as a Wheeler District Neighbor
Life as a neighbor in Wheeler District is always upbeat with resident-led events such as the Wheeler Neighborhood Campout, which invites Wheeler District neighbors to pitch their tents and enjoy movies and s’mores together at the park. Our neighbors also coordinate monthly Summer Porch Crawls, which allows the community to stay connected and get to know their fellow neighbors. Another highlight of this season has been the Red, White, & Wheeler celebration this July 4th. During this event, community members planned their own parade, picnic, and pool party to celebrate Independence Day!
